
The Board has officially released its practical specimens and instructions to universities in preparation for the Joint Universities Preliminary Examination (JUPEB) for the 2022/2023 academic session. The JUPEB Practical specimen for 2023 is out and can be accessed below.
2023 JUPEB Chemistry Practical Specimen/ Instructions
The University should provide the under-listed items per candidate for the practical examination.
All candidates should be reminded to come to the examination venue with laboratory coats. This is mandatory.
1. A mixture of Na₂SO and Fe₂(SO₄)₃ mixed in the ratio 2:3 by mass.
2. 2 moldm-³ HCI
3. Filter paper
4. Distilled water
5. 1 boiling tube
6. 3 test tubes
7. 1 funnel
8. 2M AgNO₃
9. 2 molar NaOH
10. 2 molar NH₄OH
11. 6M HCl
12. Dropping pipette
13. Dissolve 5.28g Na₂CO₃ in 1000cm³ as Solution B
14. 0.1M HCl as solution A
15. Methyl Orange
16. 25cm³ pipette
17. 25cm³ or 50cm³ burette
18. Conical flasks 250ml 2 per student
19. Beaker 250ml 2 per student
20. Barium chloride
21. Potassium hexacyanateferrate(III) K₃Fe(CN)₆

2023 JUPEB Biology Practical Specimen/ Instructions
Each University should endeavor to provide the following materials for their candidates:
1. Specimen A= Tomato fruit
2. Specimen B = Mango Fruit
3. Specimen C = Groundnut Seeds
4. Specimen D = Maize fruit
5. Specimen E = Irish potato tuber/onion bulb/ cocoyam corm/ Rhizome of ginger
6. Specimen Y = Compound light microscope
7. Specimen F = Lizard
8. Specimen G = Bean seeds
9. Specimen Z = Hand lens
NOTE: All candidates should be reminded to come to the examination venue with laboratory coats. This is mandatory. Ensure the ratio of the specimen to the candidate is 1:1 as much as possible.

The following should be provided for the Physics Practical Examinations for each candidate:
1. Retort stand with clamp
2. Unknown mass labelled m (100g)
3. Meter rule
4. Knife edge (which should be about 15cm higher than the beaker edge)
5. Beaker and water
6. Threads
7. Masking/ Paper tape
8. A 100g mass labelled m₁
9. Wooden block (10cm by 10cm)
10. Spiral spring
11. Stopwatch
12. Voltmeter (0 – 5V)
13. 2 battery cells of 1.5V each
14. 2Ω, 3Ω and 5Ω resistors
15. Ammeter
16. Jockey
17. Potentiometer
18. Key
19. Connecting wires.
