The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, wishes to announce to candidates, stakeholders, and the general public that the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2024-Second Series, have been released.
The examination was conducted in Nigeria in two modes, the Paper and Pen option and the Computer-Based Hybrid format. The coordination of examiners and marking of candidates’ scripts took place at five traditional and one e-marking venue nationwide from Wednesday, January 15, to Tuesday, February 4, 2025. A total of 3,327 examiners participated in the coordination and marking exercise.
WAEC GCE Result Statistics for 2024
A total of 65,023 candidates sat the examination. Among them, 157 candidates with varying degrees of special needs, including 25 visually impaired, 13 hearing impaired, and 15 albinos, were adequately provided for during the exam. Their results have been fully processed and released along with others.
Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 34,878 candidates, representing 53.64%, obtained credits and above in at least five mandatory subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a 9.35% increase in performance compared to the 44.29% and 42.16% recorded in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
Among these successful candidates, 16,886 (48.41%) were males, while 17,992 (51.58%) were females, indicating that more female candidates outperformed their male counterparts.
WAEC GCE Processing and Withheld Results for 2024
According to the board, out of the 65,023 candidates who sat the examination, 62,364 (95.90%) have had their results fully processed and released. However, 2,669 candidates (4.1%) still have one or more subjects being processed due to errors traceable to them.
Additionally, the results of 2,577 candidates (3.98%) are being withheld due to various reported cases of examination malpractice. These cases are under investigation, and the Council will communicate decisions to the affected candidates once the process is completed.
