The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) result statistics.

According to the examination body, the number of candidates who registered for the exam was 1,376,423, and the number of candidates who sat for the exams was 1,367,736.

The Registrar added that 702,112 candidates were male, and 665,624 females sat for the examination, while the number of candidates who made five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics, is 1,147,597, representing 83.90 percent.

NECO Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, stated that 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55 percent, made five credits, including Mathematics and English Language.

Professor Wushishi also disclosed that the number of candidates with special needs is 2,267. A total of 1,104 had hearing impairment, 348 had visual impairment, 342 had albinism, 237 had autism, and 236 had low vision.

The number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 stood at 8,437 as against 12,030 in 2023, saying this shows a reduction of 30.1 percent in comparison.

21 supervisors were recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting, abscondment, extortion, drunkenness, and negligence in 12 States.

Out of all the states that sat for the examinations, candidates from Abia State led other states as they scored five credits and above, including Mathematics and English language, making 83.40 percent.

The state also leads in candidates with five credits and above irrespective of Mathematics and English language 95.84 percent.

He also disclosed that for least performed states with five credits and above, including mathematics and English language, Katsina came last on the table with 42 percent. This is just 2.42 percent ahead of Kano which came second to last with 44.42 percent.
